Guy Cook

Lead Guitar / Backing Vocals

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away...OH!...wait!, wrong story. This story starts before I was born, back in the day, when my grandparents gave my father his first drum set. This officialy started the Cook musical dynasty. My Pop's has played music all his life, so it's in the blood. I've been around music all my life, but I didn't actually start to play until I was 20 years old, and this only happened because my main ace Greg, that's with one " G ", bought a badass set of Ludwig drums. It just so happened that my brother knew this cat that had a Fender Strat for sale, so I bought it! As you can guess, Greg and I, in the basement of course, commenced to bombard his parents daily with our quest for musical enlightenment. Soon our boy James, codename "J5" Pursell had come back from leave with the service, and we happened to be hanging out at Pop's rehearsal with his band "Nitro Blues". I gotta give a quick shout out to Steve W!, Anyway James grabbed the Ole' Rickenbacker Bass and we ripped into a version of Wild Thing, and the rest as they say is history. Now it wasn't always smooth sailing. It took me awhile to get my shit together. I quit playing a couple of times out of the frustration of not getting the hang of playing, but with time and a little help from Jimi Hendrix, things started coming together. I listened to a lot of different music. Obviously I listened to all the greats, but I also got into the blues, pop music, and some really killer local acts. I also jammed with a lot of different cats, played in a few cover bands, and wrote some original music. I learned a lot during this time, musically and socially. Being in a band and trying to communicate musically can be hard, if not impossible at times, but when Greg, James, and I decided to get back together and form the band "Paul Caruso", everything just fell into place. I was singing and playing by this time and it felt good to front a band while playing with my best friends. We played all over the city, made some decent scratch, and I accumulated a boat load of equipment or as I like to call it My "guitarsenal". We did that for about 3 years and decided to take a hiatus, because you can get pretty burnt out sometimes. Plus life is short and there were other things we wanted to focus our attention on. But like I said, it's in the blood, so after a while I started jamming again with friends and my brother who was really getting serious about beating the skins, that's drums for the laymen. Also around this time we started jamming with Dave K (who I gotta give his propers, because without him we would have never met Gregg with 2 "G"s), and building the foundation for what would become "State of Mind". Now with Gregg in the picture we possied up Tim O, and began whipping into shape the band we all know today as State of Mind. I really dig these guys and get totally amped about our music and our vibe. Things are definetly positive and I'm looking forward to a bright future with this band. So bright I might have to wear shades.....Nah!

Hey everyone! Thanks for stopping by our site. I guess this is the spot where I am supposed to tell you a little bit about my background. Well Im a self taught musician and songwriter who has been at it for the better part of 9 years now. I started out with just a simple acoustic guitar and a lot of free time on my hands, but it didn't take long for me to get hooked on the music bug. Ive spent the better part of my music career just sitting at home and maybe playing at the occasional open mic night, until one day I finally decided to make a go at being in a band. Of course I bounced in and out of a couple of bands, which never really amounted to anything like I'm sure most musicians do, but I finally found a band that I call home with State of Mind. I look forward to many good times with these guys and I hope to meet many new friends and fans along the way.

Bass / Back-up Vocals

The music bug first bit me when I was about 13 years old, but I didn't become seriously infected until I was 17. The first instrument I picked up, in search of a cure for my musical ailment of course, was the guitar. But that didn't work so I switched to the drums, which I played with my first band "Voodoo Reign". I did that for a few years, but a witch doctor told me my destiny lay with the string instruments, so I straped my guitar back on and played rhythm in several bands including "Shallow" and "Knee Deep". I felt a little bit better, but I was still woosy, so I decided to go to the deep end and give the bass a twirl. I instantly felt 100% better, a new man. That was 8 years ago and I haven't put it down since . I've since been the bass player for such bands as "Neverbent" and now "State of Mind", where I finally feel I have found my home. I look forward to a long and illustrious career with this band.

INFLUENCES: Led Zepplin, Tool, Alice in Chains, Dream Theatre, and you know it baby, Cliff "THE MAN" Burton

MY SAYING: "Find a penny pick it up, all day long you'll have a penny"
